The general metal-seated gate: copper-alloy-faced wedge on a bronze-faced seat, non-rising or rising stem, made to GB, BS5163 or DIN F4, DN50–DN600, PN10 to PN25. Choose it when the medium is not clean water — heating water with treatment chemicals, light steam, or a line that carries grit the rubber seat would score — and accept that a metal seat weeps slightly by nature. On a potable main it is the wrong valve: the EPDM-encapsulated resilient gate seals better and lasts longer, and costs less to replace.
