The ball check has no hinge and no disc: a rubber-covered ball rolls off its seat with forward flow and is pushed back by any reversal, so there is nothing to stick, seize or hang up on rags — which is why it is the usual choice on sewage and slurry-adjacent duty where a swing check would foul within months. Two limits. The ball needs a few tenths of a bar of back pressure to seat, so it is not a tight shut-off; and on vertical downward flow a plain ball will not close against gravity, which needs a spring-loaded build rather than the standard body.
