The silent check closes on a tuned 304 spring the moment forward flow stops, before the column has time to reverse — which is what makes it silent and what makes it the right valve at a pump discharge with a long main, where a swing check would let the column come back and slam. The price is pressure drop: the spring is always in the flow, and on a low-head duty that matters. It also wants reasonably clean water; grit in the guide is how these stick open. DN50–DN400, EPDM seat, epoxy ductile iron.
