A Y-strainer is the cheapest insurance on a line: a 304 screen in the branch catches weld slag, scale and grit before it reaches a pump, a meter or a control valve, and the blow-down cap lets it be flushed without breaking the joint. Two things are usually got wrong. It is sized on the pipe instead of on the flow, so the pressure drop across a clean screen is already too high; and nobody leaves the space to lift the screen out, so it is never cleaned. DN15–DN400, PN10/16, epoxy ductile iron, flanged or threaded.
