The V-notch in the segment ball is what separates this from an ordinary ball valve: it shears through pulp, fibre and particles while opening like an orifice with a near equal-percentage characteristic, so one valve both isolates and controls. DN25–DN600, PN10 to PN40 or 150/300LB, −29 to 350 °C, sealing Class V or Class VI. The limit is the notch itself — a particle larger than the V will jam the segment, and for that duty the answer is a different valve, not a bigger one. Bi-directional sealing and a re-seatable stem are options worth stating at enquiry.

The V notch shears as it opens
The segment ball carries a V-shaped notch, so as the valve opens the notch sweeps across the seat and shears through fibre and solids instead of trapping them. The same geometry makes the flow follow a near-equal-percentage characteristic, so one valve both isolates and controls.
That is the reason this valve is used on paper stock, slurries and viscous media where a standard ball valve would either block or control badly.
What the mechanical detail buys you
The seat sits in a carrier that keeps opening torque low and leaves no pocket for solids to pack into; the stem is adjustable from above so the ball can be re-seated without dismantling the line; the ball drives on a square shaft, which keeps backlash out of high-cycle duty.
Sizes, ratings and sealing class are in the table above. Sealing direction — uni- or bi-directional — has to be stated, because it decides which way the pressure may sit.
