The 300X closes slowly on purpose. When the pump stops, the valve drops most of its travel quickly and then throttles the last part, which takes the surge out of the line instead of letting the returning column hit a shut disc. Both speeds are set on the pilot at commissioning, so the same valve suits a short riser and a long transmission main. It is a check valve, so it holds flow in one direction only — it will not stop reverse flow from a second source unless the pilot is set to do so, and it needs a strainer ahead of the pilot line.
