Arm guards sit on the spider arms above the crushing chamber, where the falling feed hits them before it reaches the mantle: they take impact that would otherwise land off-centre on the chamber. They wear on the leading edge and from feed that comes in off the axis, so a set that wears unevenly around the spider is telling you about the feed arrangement, not about the casting. Made to the OEM arm profile or to a drawing; the fit at the arm root is what keeps them on, so a guard that has been hammered into place will not last.
