The retrac body tapers back from the cutting face so the bit drags less when the string is pulled out of a hole that is squeezing or broken — the difference between a round trip in minutes and a string stuck in a hole. It gives up a little hole-cleaning at the face for that, so it is the wrong bit in good, stable rock where a standard body drills straight and comes out anyway. R32 to GT60, flat or convex face, optimised flushing channels for deep holes in fractured ground.
